Thursday turned out to be a very good night for N.C. State and a nightmare for Duke in women’s basketball.
Bonae Holston poured in 20 points and 11 rebounds, leading five Wolfpack players in double figures as it snapped an eight-game ACC losing streak with an 81-65 win at Virginia Tech.
Kody Burke added 11 points and Brittany Strachan 10 for NCSU.
Monet Tellier had 23 points but was the only player in double figures for the Hokies (11-15, 1-10), who fell into sole possession of last place in the ACC.
Virginia Tech visits Duke on Sunday at noon. State will host UNC on Monday night at 7.
Maryland 69, Duke 47
Lynetta Kizer’s 17 points led the way for Maryland (21-5, 7-4), which had lost 71-64 in Durham on Jan. 6.
Alyssa Thomas added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Terps to help end a two-game losing streak, while Tianna Hawkins chipped in 10 points.
Jasmine Thomas and Allison Vernerey had 12 points each to lead Duke (23-3, 9-2), which played without freshman Chelsea Gray who was back on campus with an illness.
