Duke gets past Auburn on the road after signing top recruiting class

Jasmine Thomas’ 16 points led five players in double figures as No. 6 Duke topped Auburn 75-62 at the new Auburn Arena.

Duke coach Joanne P. McCallie is a former Auburn assistant and has a master’s degree from the school.

Duke, which shot 50 percent from the field, got 13 points from freshman Chelsea Gray, 11 from Krystal Thomas, 10 from Karima Christmas and 10 from freshman Haley Peters.

Alli Smalley and Morgan Toles had 12 points each for Auburn.

It was a big day for Duke basketball, as the program announced the signings of 6-4 forward Amber Henson of Walter Sickles High in Tampa, Fla., whose brother John plays at UNC; 5-10 guard Ka'lia Johnson of Thomas Dale High in Chester, Va.; and 6-3 center Elizabeth Williams of Princess Anne High in Virginia Beach.

The class is ranked No. 1 nationally by Blue Star Report and Girls Basketball Report, with Williams ranked as the No. 1 post player in the class.
