Tar Heels, Wolfpack open women's basketball season Friday afternoon



The ACC women’s basketball season finally gets going in the Triangle on Friday, and two of the three local teams will be in action and heavily favored.

N.C. State will begin its second season under Coach Kellie Harper at noon, when the Wolfpack takes on The College of Charleston in the opening game of the Sheraton Raleigh Wolfpack Invitational at Reynolds Coliseum. Liberty will take on Creighton at 2 p.m. with consolation and championship games on Saturday. The Wolfpack will play at 8 p.m. Saturday and Charleston at 6 regardless of today’s results.

Friday’s other contest is at 4 p.m., as No. 15 UNC hosts North Florida at Carmichael Arena.

No. 6 Duke will also open its season at home, facing Brigham Young on Saturday night at 7 at Cameron Indoor Stadium
All three Triangle ACC teams played in the NCAA Tournament in 2010.
