ACC releases women's hoops schedules, with both UNC and Duke facing UConn



The ACC released its women’s basketball schedule today, and as usual there is plenty to talk about.

Defending conference champion Duke, under Joanne P. McCallie, will host Texas A&M and visit defending NCAA champion Connecticut. Perennial power UNC, guided by veteran Sylvia Hatchell, will host Connecticut at Carmichael Auditorium and entertain Iowa in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. And up-and coming N.C. State, which made the NCAA Tournament in Kellie Harper’s first season at the helm in 2009-10, will host Old Dominion and Southern California.

The Wolfpack opens its regular season on Nov. 12 against the College of Charleston in the opening round of the Sheraton Raleigh Wolfpack Invitational at Reynolds Coliseum, while UNC will open its regular season at home the same night against North Florida. Duke will open at home the next day against Brigham Young.

The Duke-Texas A&M game, which will be the Jimmy V Classic, will be on Dec. 6 at Cameron Indoor Stadium and telecast on ESPN2. Connecticut will visit UNC on Jan. 17 on and host Duke Jan. 31, with both games to be shown live on ESPN2.

The big Triangle ACC rivalry games are N.C. State at UNC on Jan. 14, Duke at N.C. State on Jan. 23, Duke at UNC on Feb. 7 (ESPN2), UNC at N.C. State on Feb. 21 (FSN), and Duke at UNC on Feb. 27 (FSN).

The ACC Tournament is at Greensboro Coliseum March 3-6.

The Blue Devils will also host first- and second-round games in the NCAA Tournament on March 19 and 21.
