Angel Chavez homered and singled for three RBI with three runs scored, leading the Durham Bulls to an 11-2 rout of the Charlotte Knights in the opener of a four-game, two-city series at Knights Stadium.

Jose Lobaton had a double and two singles with an RBI for the Bulls, who pounded out 12 hits in the victory.

Dan Johnson clubbed his fifth homer of the season for Durham, who also got two hits with two RBI from Desmond Jennings and two hits with an RBI from Hank Blalock.

Heath Phillips (1-0) was the winning pitcher for the Bulls, allowing one run on five hits while striking out four against a pair of walks.

Carlos Torres (1-2) took the loss for Charlotte, which got two hits including a solo homer from Dayan Viciedo.
