Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard is shrinking.
Last night Durham City Council voted 7-0 to approve a plan to reduce the number of car lanes from five to three along the portion of the thoroughfare between Hardee's and James Street. There would also be new bike lanes and 21 on-street parking spaces.
The re-striping will begin later this summer as part of the state department of transportation's repaving of the street.
