Raleigh mayor Nancy McFarlane announced this weekend that Publix is no longer considering the intersection of Falls of Neuse and Dunn Roads for a new store location.
For more than a year, North Raleigh residents have strongly and visibly opposed rezoning
the property which would have made the construction of a 49,000 square foot store possible.
The developer, Morgan Property Group of Charlotte, has instead proposed building a 28,000 square foot organic food store on the property, according to an email from the North Raleigh Coalition of Homeowners Association (NORCHOA). NORCHOA says it would not support a change in the zoning of the property and that any development of the property should occur under the current zoning.
“At this time, development for any store greater than 30,000 square feet is off the table,” the NORCHOA email states. “For now we wait to see what is exactly proposed.”
The email notes that a proposal for another large specialty store in North Raleigh, at the intersection of Falls of Neuse and Litchford Roads, is moving forward. Neighbors are invited to meet with the developer on Tuesday at 7p.m. at the North Raleigh Church of Christ to learn more about the project.
