UNC System President Erskine Bowles told a UNC Board of Governors committee yesterday that N.C. Central University will be forced to pay back all federal loan money that students received while attending an unaccredited satellite campus in Georgia. The New L.I.F.E. College Program, which the UNC Board of Governors say they never vetted, was located on the grounds of the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Ga., whose pastor, Eddie Long, just so happens to be a N.C. Central trustee who this year gave $1M to the school. Last year, the U.S. Senate Finance Committee launched an investigation into possible financial improprieties at Long's ministry.
