North Carolina law doesn't allow gays and lesbians to marry, but it will take their money. Largely progressive Orange County is planning a major marketing push to attract gay and lesbian tourists, according to WRAL.com.
Raleigh officials, eyeing gays and lesbians as a way to fill the convention center calendar, are also marketing to the LGBT community, whereas Durham is "taking a more subtle approach":
"(We) represent Durham as it is, which is a destination that is very accepting, very engaging," said Shelly Green, chief operating officer of the Durham Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Not exactly the Welcome Wagon, progressive Durham. Say it like you mean it.
