The downtown Durham “hub for Afrofuturism, digital media, and social entrepreneurship,” dubbed Blackspace, is just a couple of days out and still several thousand dollars short from reaching its $22,000 Kickstarter goal. In an effort to reach that target, Blackspace is teaming up with two other local businesses—Runaway Clothing and The Parlour—to throw a dance party tonight and a DURM Block Party tomorrow.

Tonight, the organization's pan-African dance party goes down at The Vault. It will feature live drummers, plus DJ Skaz on the decks. Admission is on a sliding scale, with a donation of one to twenty dollars suggested; all of the money will go toward pushing the fundraising effort over the finish line. That starts at seven p.m., and you can find more information here.

Tomorrow, starting at five p.m., you can join a much bigger party downtown. The block party will take place on the corner of Market and Main streets, equidistant from both The Parlour and Runaway, and will feature dance performances by Baba Chuck Davis’s African American Dance Ensemble, a performance by Jeghetto’s Planet Puppet Theatre, music from Zoocrü, food trucks, DJs, and more. That party is free, but you can, of course, donate to the cause. Visit the the block party’s Facebook event page for more details.
