Last week was a busy one for American Aquarium, especially the band's singer, B.J. Barham: Aside from leading his roots-rock act through two sold-out shows at the Lincoln Theatre and playing a solo gig at the band's spiritual Mecca of Slim's, Barham entered the studio late last week to record his solo debut, Rockingham.

After crowdfunding the eight-song LP through a Pledge Music campaign, Barham recruited a high-caliber cast that includes Phil Cook, Brad Cook, Ryan Johnson, Kyle Keegan and Whit Wright to Durham's Overdub Lane. The band rehearsed the material earlier in the week, cut it at the end of the week, and mixed the results on Saturday. The sessions were intended to capture an album quickly and with minimal fuss or overdubs, creating something of a live-band atmosphere. Barham plans to release the album in June.
