We already knew that Raleigh’s King Mez had packed his bags, left the Triangle and settled on the West Coast, where, almost immediately, he began working on something huge with legendary producer Dr. Dre. We had no idea that the fruits of that labor would be this monumental.

On Saturday afternoon, during Dr. Dre’s Beats 1 radio show “The Pharmacy,” the six-time Grammy-winning producer, rapper and mogul announced that on August , Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre, will be released via iTunes’ Apple Music. Inspired by the upcoming N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton, the 16-track LP will be Dr. Dre’s first album in 15 years and features a heavy load of A-list guest features, including three songs with Raleigh emcee, King Mez. (King Mez could not be reached for comment.) Texas emcee, Justus, and megastar Compton emcee, Kendrick Lamar, are the only other rappers on Compton with an equal amount of features.

Also, remember that Detox album that we’d all been waiting for and begging Dr. Dre to release? Fuggedaboutit. It appears it’s been scrapped once and for all.

"It just wasn't good,” Dr. Dre admitted during Saturday’s “The Pharmacy” broadcast. “The reason Detox didn't come out was because I didn't like it. It wasn't good...I worked my ass off on it, I don't think I did a good enough job, and I couldn't do that to my fans and I couldn't do that to myself, to be perfectly honest with you. I just wasn't feeling it."

If you’ve been following the trail that has led up to this announcement, then you may have sniffed out something of this magnitude back on July 4 when “The Pharmacy” made its premiere on Beats 1. King Mez made a cameo for the show’s intro music, and Dr. Dre closed out the show with a King Mez freestyle. Then, last Wednesday, Ice Cube appeared on Philadelphia’s Power 99 radio station and accidentally leaked news about the upcoming release of Compton.

Now, we wait for the music.
