Watch Skylar Gudasz' "Car Song," plus an update on her debut LP

Skylar Gudasz' "Car Song" video has garnered the Durham singer-songwriter some deserved national attention. It was featured yesterday on Boxx Magazine, and Gudasz was interviewed about the song and video earlier this month by Huffington Post.

"We might always be on the road," Gudasz laments as the song gradually builds. "Ain't it sad that I gotta be alone." In the video, she stares from the large windows in the Carolina Theatre's ballroom, looking out at couples or groups of friends passing by. It's evocative of the potentially isolating 22 or 23 hours of the day a touring musician spends not playing music; Gudasz writes at a table, strums a Les Paul with missing knobs, looks on.

"Car Song" itself is from a June single by the same name. Yet Gudasz, who has yet to release a solo full-length, told INDY Week she has one completely, though there's no release date yet.

"It is pretty done, and we are currently label shopping," she said before rattling off a respectable list of guest musicians including Tom Waits-affiliated percussionist Michael Blair, New Music Raleigh's Karen and Shawn Galvin, Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub and many others. It's a fairly staggering cast, likely indicative of a record to match.
