your turn FLOC Rally and Dinner, Saturday, March 25: The Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC) began its boycott of Mt. Olive Pickles more than a year ago in protest of the company's treatment of migrant farmworkers. FLOC's president, Baldemar Velasquez, has traveled far and wide to spread the word about the boycott and organize labor to demand fair and ethical treatment. To celebrate FLOC's successes and to re-energize the protest, Friends of the Triangle Farmworkers and FLOC will hold a rally at Durham's Five Points (downtown intersection of Chapel Hill Street and Main Street) where Velasquez will describe the status of the boycott and what needs to be done to continue putting pressure on the pickle company. The rally will also feature speeches from AFL-CIO President James Andrews, El Centro Hispano Director Ivan Parra, Black Workers for Justice's Ajamu Dillahunt, and author-professor Ariel Dorfman, as well as music by Fruits of Labor, the cultural arm of Black Workers for Justice. The rally will be followed by a fiesta dinner fundraiser at 7 p.m. at the Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 3011 Academy Road. Call 489-2659 for more information.
