your turn HUD Hearing, Thursday, Feb. 10: The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Assistant Secretary William C. Apgar will be in Durham to discuss a new policy instated by his department that requires the nation's two largest housing finance companies, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, to buy $2.4 trillion in mortgages for affordable housing over the next 10 years. The forum will look at the ways these two Government-sponsored enterprises (GSE) are working toward their public mission. The Coalition for Responsible Lending sees this new policy as a way to reduce predatory lending practices, since the GSEs will have the opportunity to set positive standards for purchasing sub-prime loans from lenders. Concerned citizens should attend the hearing to make sure the GSEs will follow through with this chance to raise the bar for predatory lenders. The meeting starts at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Durham Marriott, 210 Foster St. To register for the hearing, fax your name, address, phone and fax number to Sue Siettmann at (310) 519-6655 and reference the Feb. 10, Durham Regional GSE Hearing or e-mail the same information to mfhc@aspensys.com.
