All About Beer magazine's regular beer festivals in Raleigh and Durham represent the zenith of beer brewing and sampling in the area. Recognized by such national publications as Forbes and USA Today as among the top beer-related events in the country, it offers the finest in local craft beer, food, music and good times. To truly capture the wonder of this fine event, you have to be there, and with some thorough hard-drive searching, we were able to recover this writer's ruminations about his very first visit to the festival many years ago:
sunlight burns like vampire head like washing machine all gooshy had Guinness & Red Hat & this German thing but they had no pretzels & i said to my friend we should have gone to the NCSU party they had free sno cones & he looked at me funny & i told this girl i thought she was attractive physically but that i did not mean that in such a way as to devalue her as a person & she said i was sweet and that felt good & then my friend tried to pee in an alley and i screamed no dont do that if you get caught they make you register as a sex offender i read it in The Economist and then he couldn't go & yelled at me & then i wanted to go to Krispy Kreme but he didn't want to oh god need the bucket again why did i have those chicken fingers?
Powerful stuff. The festival runs in two four-hour sessions, noon–4 p.m. and 6–10 p.m. Single-session tickets are $40, or $50 day of event. —Zack Smith
