Wonder Woman

When: Thu., June 14, 8:30 p.m. 2018

Before Wonder Woman entered the DC Extended Universe last year, how long had we been waiting for Gadot? (And how crazy is it that that joke hasn't been run into the ground? It's right there!) As Black Panther gave us the first African-American-led superhero blockbuster since Blade, Wonder Woman gave us the first female-led version of the testosterone-drenched form since—ever? Unless the 1984 dud Supergirl counts? (It doesn't). So much of the success of a super-flick rides on casting, and Gal Gadot was the perfect choice to play the Amazonian princess who winds up battling Germans and demigods in the First World War. Her film is the DCEU's best, and her appearances in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League make those dreary affairs worth seeing. Wonder Woman screens atop the Wallace Parking Deck in Chapel Hill's free Movies Under the Stars series. —Brian Howe
