Thursday, Nov. 30, 5 p.m.
UNC's Wilson Library, Chapel Hill

You've heard of the Appalachian Trail, but did you know that there is an Appian Way in North Carolina, too? Maybe you've heard of Stoneman's Raid, but have you heard of the Stonewall Jackson Manual Training and Industrial School?

This fall's must-have book for every complete Tar Heel library is The Encyclopedia of North Carolina, a 1,300-page opus edited by UNC professor emeritus of history Dr. William S. Powell. On Nov. 30, Dr. Powell will be joined by president emeritus William Friday at UNC's Wilson Library for a public discussion of the book and North Carolina history. The free Friends of the Library event will begin with a 5 p.m. reception.

For info about the event, call 962-4207 or email liza_terll@unc.edu. For info about the encyclopedia, visit www.encyclopediaofnorthcarolina.org. See Literary: Readings (keyword: Powell) in our A&E calendar for more Powell events this week.
