When: Fri., Sept. 18, 9 p.m. 2015

In Carrboro, The ArtsCenter seems to be deciding anew what exactly it wants to be, at least as far as music programming goes. After some turnover with booking personnel and some disappointing cancelations and slim rosters in the last several months, the venue offers an interesting alternative with this local electronic showcase. Area staple One Duran takes top billing here and should set a perfect dance floor mood, with steadily morphing beats supporting florid snippets of synthetic melodies that slip in and out of the mix. Calapse is considerably more fragmented, with sharp cuts and quick glitches cutting across the expanse of throbbing bass and ascendant lines. (Note: Calapse is the project of INDY employee Reed Benjamin.) Pay special attention to Glacial, the new duo of Matt Stevenson and Adam Graetz. Stevenson’s own lengthy productions often take a dark detour through techno, so that some element, whether a faint drone in the background or the static shrouding the rhythm, suggests sinister intent. —Grayson Haver Currin
