WELCOME TO NIGHT VALE

MONDAY, MARCH 30, CHAPEL HILL

UNC'S MEMORIAL HALL—This podcast about "Glow Clouds," deadly librarians and a mayoral race between a dragon and The Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives in Your Home has shot to the top of iTunes, earned a book deal and become a live show. It's styled as weekly community-news announcements from a town that's more Twin Peaks than Lake Wobegon, combining deadpan dark humor (please ignore the Mysterious Hooded Figures in the Dog Park, and any lights and noises from the Dog Park), existential observations and great music in recurring segment The Weather. The live show at Motorco sold out last year, necessitating this move to Memorial Hall, where Minneapolis hip-hop artist Dessa performs The Weather. There's no telling who else might show up with host Cecil Baldwin, whether it's Carlos, the scientist with the perfect haircut, or Night Vale's rivals in Desert Bluffs. If none of this makes sense to you, go to iTunes or CommonplaceBooks.com, where all previous episodes are free. Fair warning ... it's addictive. 8 p.m., $25–$28, 114 E. Cameron Ave., Chapel Hill, 919-967-9053, www.catscradle.com. —Zack Smith
