Chapel Hill
LOCAL 506—Swervedriver fans rejoice at former frontman Adam Franklin's return from the ambient electronic Toshack Highway, where he's hidden out since Swervedriver's dissipation in 1999. Franklin's solo debut, Bolts of Melody, returns to the hook-driven rock of his earlier days. And though not as loud or effects-ridden as his old rig (Franklin even sounds like Elliott Smith on "Song of Solomon"), the album's strong melodicism and songwriting herald a welcome comeback. *SONS and Dawn Chorus open at 9 p.m. for $8. —Chris Parker

UNC CAMPUS—On the occasion of receiving the Thomas Wolfe Prize from the UNC English department, the celebrated novelist, philosopher and teacher Reynolds Price will deliver a free lecture at 7:30 pm in the Carroll Hall Auditorium. Visit for more information. —Ashley Roberts
