Duke Campus—In America, anti-gay bigotry is often grounded in scripture, while arguments for greater social acceptance typically appeal to Enlightenment values of tolerance and individual freedom. In a passionate, engaging new documentary, For the Bible Tells Me So, Daniel Karslake confronts anti-gay prejudice directly, on its scriptural home turf, so to speak. The film weaves moving personal stories with enlightening forays into Judeo-Christian theology, revealing a surprising diversity of opinion among believers. Karslake, a Duke graduate, will be on hand to answer questions about the film, which received standing ovations at Sundance and has been short-listed for an Oscar nomination. The 7 p.m. screening at Duke's Griffith Theater (located in the Bryan Center) is free. —Marc Maximov
