Langhorne Slim
Cat's Cradle—Langhorne Slim dances on stage the way all people do in their bedrooms. He sings into the microphone like it's a scorned lover and sways with impatience as his plaintive vocals search for life's meaning. But a beaten and cynical worldview often gives way to acceptance and hope, and the level of intimacy Slim achieves with his audiences seems voyeuristic. His acoustic guitar should be emblazoned with the words "This Machine Kills Despondency." Backed by drum-upright bass duo the War Eagles, expect soul-tinged folk with punk rock shouts and jazz-influenced solos. The simple and sad baritone of singer-songwriter Sam Lowry opens the evening before The Woes kicks things off with bluesy New Orleans shuffle and insidious country frolic. Pay $12-$14 at 9:30 p.m. —Andrew Ritchey
