WCOM Acoustic Fest with Harmonica Bob & Near Blind James, Tim Stambaugh, Birds & Arrows

When: Thu., Oct. 13, 7:30 p.m. 2011

Carrboro low-wattage community station WCOM-FM, 103.5, in keeping with its humble transmission range and local focus, brings three unamplified acts to The Cave for this early-evening show. Half of Birds and Arrows' songs are acoustic-driven, so this won't be a huge stretch for the Chapel Hill guitar-drums-cello folk-rock trio. Oddly enough, some of the coolest moments on their latest record, We're Gonna Run, rely on effects more typical of Pink Floyd, though these may not be present for an unplugged set. More traditional fare from the banjo-toting Tim Stambaugh and the blues duo Near Blind James & Harmonica Bob round out the bill. The free show starts at 7:30 p.m. —Corbie Hill
