Wake District Court Judge (District 10)

Mark Perry
  • Mark Perry

Three candidates are running in this nonpartisan race for Shelley Desvouges' open seat. We support Mark Perry, a private attorney who has practiced law in Wake County for more than 20 years. An excellent lawyer, Perry primarily handles criminal cases; observers note he is a strong believer in defendants' rights. He's held in high regard by the local bar. He wrote in his Indy questionnaire, "I will endeavor to treat people with the respect that they deserve and apply the law to the facts of each case, tempered by compassion and understanding." His priorities are to address overcrowding and inefficient use of resources in the system, partly by scheduling more criminal cases on Fridays.

Perry faces two competitors. Marty Miller is a litigator in a Cary general practice firm, handling domestic law, criminal misdemeanors and civil cases. He says he has argued cases in every courtroom in Wake County.

Anna Elena Worley is a private practice attorney, handling mostly family law cases. She wrote in her candidate questionnaire:"I feel strongly that families of Wake County deserve a judiciary that remembers that children feel the effects of our courts' decisions, even when they are not parties to an action. In our juvenile courts, dealing with abuse, neglect and dependency, and in custody and child support matters, the rulings that are made today affect our country's citizenry for years to come." Worley speaks Spanish and English.
