Valient Thorr, Grohg, Shitty Boots

When: Wed., Dec. 3, 9 p.m. 2014

Given their self-made mythos of intergalactic origin, it's a tad ironic that Valient Thorr has become a linchpin of the region's heavy music orbit. With frontman Valient Himself lending his voice to Richmond's Brief Lives, guitarist Sadat Thorr's ripping in Wilmington's Thunderlip, or guitarist Eidan Thorr leading the new trio Revolving Beast, Valient Thorr is a vital ingredient in the Southeastern metal scene, especially among bands with retro-hard rock inspirations and party-time attitudes. This is a hometown warm-up before an extensive East Coast tour with Nashville Pussy. Grohg, whose excellent sophomore EP Darkness and the Freedom it Breathes gracefully collides punk force and metal intricacy, share the bill. Shitty Boots open. 9 p.m., $10$12, 14 W. Martin St., 919-833-1091, —Bryan C. Reed

Price: $10-$12
