Named for an internet video about a couple of girls and a cup that you should NEVER EVER GOOGLE, the "Two Kids, One Hall" tour reunites Kids in the Hall teammates Scott Thompson and Kevin McDonald for a stand-up comedy tour that promises both nostalgia and something, as another well-known comedy troupe once put it, completely different. Already a legend in their native Canada, the Kids achieved a cult following among U.S. members of Generation X for reruns of their eponymous series on Comedy Central, which featured more cross-dressing than the entirety of Shakespeare's plays.
Since then, the Kids mostly scattered to the four (or more accurately, five) winds, reuniting sporadically for the film Brain Candy, a few tours and most recently the miniseries Death Comes to Town. Separately, they contributed to a number of comedy classics; Dave Foley, of course, starred on NewsRadio, while Thompson was featured in the last two seasons of The Larry Sanders Show. Bruce McCulloch directed several feature films and Mark McKinney co-created the great Canadian TV series Slings and Arrows. Even the hint of two former Kids together is enough to raise the spirits of many a comedy fan, such as when McDonald and Foley briefly shared a scene in Sky High, a kids' movie I like, dammit.
Reports have it that McDonald and Thompson's tour emphasizes stand-up over sketches, meaning the odds of seeing them in women's clothing is slim. But the chemistry that comes from decades of performing together will surely shine through, and for those who still remember watching the original series in college, you will likely enjoy many happy memories of laughter, and possibly getting high. Find out for yourself. —Zack Smith
