Amandine; Best of A/V Geeks 4

Chapel Hill

Local 506-- If Sweden's Olof Gidlof's songs were flames, they'd slowly build in heat from yellow to blue, gradually shifting into embittered crescendos as the pain of paramours and failed expectations surface for more oxygen over the span of a three-minute apology. His band, Amandine, hovers around the building flame with low saturation colors of piano, banjo and guitar, following the slow burn. The band's wishfully titled recent EP, Leave Out the Sad Parts, will be one of the year's best. Chicago's Fruit Bats make Elephant 6-sturdy stuff for Sub-Pop, but it sounds a few years late and more sonically hefty than clever. Love as Laughter's Sam Jayne opens. The $10 show begins at 9:15 p.m. --Grayson Currin

Best of A/V Geeks 4

Kings-- Like a Willy Wonka of the forgotten, ignominious celluloid strip, Skip Elsheimer invites us inside his lair for another "best of" show. Since his shows are typically non-stop highlights, we've got high hopes for a program that includes titles like Goodbye to Garbage, Home is What You Make It, Soft as a Cloud, Joy of Living with Fragrance and Freeze-In. The films start at 8 p.m., and admission is a $3 suggested donation.
