Triocapes, The Bronzed Chorus, Totally Slow

When: Wed., Dec. 3, 9 p.m. 2014

On Digital Dream Sequence, the most recent record from Greensboro jazz-metal fusion triumvirate Trioscapes, the group eases the rigorous intensity of their earlier material. Where each complicated time change or trip-line bass melody once seemed scripted to a fault, the new stuff leaves room for improvisation and textural exploration. Trioscapes is anchored by athletic Between the Buried and Me bassist Dan Briggs, but saxophonist Walter Fancourt emerges as a radiant player on Digital Dream Sequence, capable of roaring or gliding with his horn in the same song. Ingenuous Greensboro instrumentalists The Bronzed Chorus open, along with excellent Gate City rock vets Totally Slow. —Grayson Haver Currin
