TRANSACTORS: GOING/HOME

FRIDAY, DEC. 19, CARRBORO

THE ARTSCENTERDSI Comedy Theater isn't the only local improv and sketch comedy troupe mounting a special show for the holidays. Raleigh's Transactors Improv, the Triangle's longest-running improv company, celebrates the season with Going/Home: A Musical Show About Being There and Getting There for the Holidays. Whether "home" is a physical or spiritual place, many of us are drawn there in December. Transactors has created various characters that are reuniting with family for this two-act, all-improv—melodies, lyrics and dance moves—show, which is heavy on singing, if not quite a musical. Carolina Ballet pianist and singer Glenn Mehrbach is the music director, leading live accompaniment from drummer Rob Ladd (Alanis Morissette, The Red Clay Ramblers, The Pressure Boys) and the accomplished Juilliard-trained clarinetist Fred Jacobowitz. All the longing, pathos and inevitable conflicts of holiday travels and reunions should make for bittersweet comic territory. 8 p.m., $10–$15, 300-G E. Main St., 919-929-2787, www.artscenterlive.org. —Brian Howe

Price: $10-$15
