Tin Can Sailor, Estrangers

When: Thu., Feb. 2, 10 p.m. 2012

Triangle residents with even a passing interest in local music will find it hard to approach The Estrangers without thinking of one of Raleigh's biggest musical exports, The Love Language. The pop-rock of the Winston-Salem outfit's debut LP Black Ballroom jangles explosively with big-guitar reverb and antiphonal pianos and drums. Topped with heart-on-the-sleeve lyrics, it's an uncanny, maybe uncomfortable carbon copy. Still, if you can beat back your qualms as to their originality, the rough-and-tumble six-piece puts on a good show, wrangling energetic chaos into lush retro conflagrations. Tin Can Sailor opens. The free show begins at 10 p.m. —Jordan Lawrence
