WINSLOW HOMER: SOCIETY AND SOLITUDE
NASHER MUSEUM—Steven John Ross' documentary on one of the greatest American landscape painters has made it to Durham on its national tour. Through interviews with art scholars and on-location footage, the film details Homer's artistic development along with his gradual social withdrawal. Come early and enjoy a meal at the café, or check out the Street Level exhibition beforehand. The show starts at 7 p.m. and is free with $5 admission to the museum. RANDY WHITT
BLUE BAYOU CLUB—In solo mode, there's room for Randy Whitt's songs to reveal their layers. Musically, that means the touches of '70s pop and soul are exposed. It's a gifted songwriter, indeed, who paints a sunset as the funeral of the sun, and you need to hear what else he has to offer. The show starts at 8:30 p.m., or just as the sun is being laid to rest. —Rick Cornell
