Backwards: A Beatles Tribute

Kings--The wildest Beatles tribute that I've ever seen was in Cape May, N.J., somewhere around 1985. Four young Puerto Rican men (including a drummer whose kit consisted of cardboard boxes) expertly re-created Fab Four songs, complete with on-the-money harmonies and British accents. That surprising quartet is most likely now defunct, but there are plenty of cross-cultural, Lennon & McCartney-as-a-second-language outfits carrying the torch, perhaps most notably Backwards, hailing from eastern Slovakia. These two-time winners of the top prize at New York City's annual Beatlefest will do a pair of shows at Kings on June 15: a non-smoking show at 8 p.m. and a smokin' 10 p.m. encore. Bring $10. --Rick Cornell

Koka Booth Amphitheatre--Grab the kids and some bug spray, and enjoy a big-screen attraction under the stars. Madagascar, a kid-friendly and adult-approved animated comedy, rolls at 8 p.m. Tickets are $3, and kids under 12 get in free. --Kathy Justice
