Community Family Life and Recreation Center—The Center for Documentary Studies hosts Brett Cook's Face Up: Telling Stories of Community Life, a collaborative public art project in Southwest Central Durham. A reception and conversation with the artist will be held at the recreation center, located at 1309 Halley St., at 7 p.m. For more information, call 660-3664.—Iesha Brown

Hideaway BBQ—Not only did Crenshaw pen a near perfect pop song ("Someday, Someway"), he portrayed Buddy Holly (to whom he's been compared) in the movie La Bamba, and most recently held down the guitar slot opposite Wayne Kramer in the reunited MC5. He's rightly regarded as one of the great tunesmiths of his generation, deserving of more fame and fortune than he's received. Tonight, he at least deserves your attention. Tickets are $15 and the show begins at 8:30 p.m. —Chris Parker
