THREE ACTS, TWO DANCERS,

one radio host DURHAM PERFORMING ARTS CENTER, DURHAM

SATURDAY, JULY 18

Following their celebrated 2012 collaboration, This American Life host Ira Glass and New York City-based choreographer Monica Bill Barnes present an evening of dance and radio in three acts at the American Dance Festival. Glass and Barnes first combined their seemingly dissimilar mediums in a This American Life variety show, which screened in movie theaters across the country. Since then, the two have expanded their experiment into an evening-length work. "It's important that we put the phrase 'risk-taking' into the show description," says dancer Anna Bass, who will perform with Barnes and Glass. "That's important in the dance world." While combining dancing bodies with speaking ones on stage is nothing new, the risk is in the potential for each medium to complicate and enhance the other without veering into gimmickry. 7 p.m.,
