This Year's Models

When: Sat., Nov. 27, 9 p.m. 2010

Featuring Tripp's Alex Wilkins and SNMNMNM's Seamus Kenney sharing vocals, this Elvis Costello tribute act, rest assured, won't suck. Costello is easily the finest lyricist to emerge from '80s new wave, and his wordplay and innuendo are epic: "Muscles flex and fingers curl, and a cold sweat breaks out on a sweatered girl ... Don't touch that dial, the courting cold wars weekend witch trials/All the boys are straight-laced and the girls are frigid, the talk is two-faced and the rules are rigid." Fans of his wit sometimes underappreciate his music, which features propulsive hooks in clever arrangements that doubtlessly figure in the DNA of SNMNMNM's punchy sound. Openers the Archbishops of Blount Street pay tribute to The Specials' two-tone trailblazing. Admission is free to the 9 p.m. show. —Chris Parker
