As the semester winds down, many student ensembles present their spring concerts. There are a slew of these this week; in shorter citations than is our custom, we'll list a batch here to document the young musicians' efforts. These concerts generally reflect the joy and enthusiasm of the participants and are thus well worth attending--even crusty old curmudgeons will find much to admire. Some (but not all) are free. And the musicians are destined to become members of our adult ensembles or their audiences--and to be their patrons, downstream--so it pays to support them now!

Friends, Colleagues Give a Heartfelt Farewell to Roger Hannay, by John W. Lambert
Former students and colleagues bade posthumous farewell to Roger Durham Hannay (1930-2006) during a moving celebration of his life and works in Hill Hall on the afternoon of April 9. Among the participants were folks Hannay called FSNCs (former students, now colleagues), pronounced (more or less) "fuznicks." cvnc.org/reviews/2006/042006/Hannay.html
Ciompi Winds Up the Season, by Elizabeth Kahn
In recent years, the Ciompi Quartet has featured exemplary programming by inviting guest artists to share the limelight and open our ears to unusual repertory. Such was the case at their end-of-season performance, to which they welcomed soprano Audrey Luna and pianist James Tocco for two seldom played works. cvnc.org/reviews/2006/042006/Ciompi.html
