The Three Sisters | Meredith College: Studio Theatre | Stage | Indy Week

The Three Sisters

When: Sept. 24-28, 7:30 p.m. and Sun., Sept. 29, 3 p.m. 2013

For better or for worse, Chekhov's The Three Sisters may have a renewed resonance for today's millennials. The naturalistic play about three young, cultured women who are members of Russia's privileged class but are bored and dissatisfied with their unfulfilling lives outside of Moscow sounds vaguely parallel to the narratives commonly heard from those of us who graduated college mid-recession: frustration, disappointment, unmet expectations. OK, perhaps this is a mild exaggeration, but Meredith College's staging of the story of Olga, Masha and Irina Prozorov may strike an unexpected chord. How do we find meaning and make peace with lives that aren't exactly what we pictured for ourselves? Chekhov, do you have the answer? Because we'd like to know. —Emma D. Miller
