The Sword, Red Fang, Kyng

When: Wed., June 20, 9 p.m. 2012

About five years ago, Austin band The Sword were part of a metal revival that keyed on beers, beards, psychedelic hazes and stoner riffs. For a refresher, seek out Invaders, the much-buzzed compilation released in 2007 by the band's then-label, Kemado, which mixed its results with freak-out angels Comets on Fire and heavy-rock wastes like Danava. In the interim, if you've forgotten that The Sword still exist, you're forgiven; they've had some personnel issues and generally abdicated attention to similar bands with bolder ideas, but they're now a few months away from the release of their third LP. Openers Red Fang fit that revivalist milieu, too, but thanks to a collection of swift riffs and a less self-serious approach, they're the much more enjoyable act here. Kyng opens. Tickets to the 9 p.m. show are $15 in advance, $18 day of show. —Grayson Currin
