THE SECOND CITY

SATURDAY, JAN. 17, DURHAM

THE CAROLINA THEATRE—Chicago's The Second City is one of the most hallowed names in American comedy. The sketch and improv troupe has cultivated a bumper crop of writers and performers who went on to become legends (including Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Gilda Radner and Bill Murray). Virtually any season of Saturday Night Live has a Second City vet in front of or behind the camera; the troupe's sister branch in Toronto founded the equally-legendary SCTV. In "The Second City Hits Home," they return to the Carolina Theatre with new sketches, songs and improv about Durham history and current events as well as classic bits from their archive. Getting razzed by such comedy experts is a little terrifying; get ready to find out if you can take a joke. 8:30 p.m., $24–$65.50, 309 W. Morgan St., Durham, 919-560-3030, www.carolinatheatre.org. —Zack Smith
