The Professors, Episode 3 | Common Ground Theatre | Stage | Indy Week

The Professors, Episode 3

When: Fri., Jan. 13, 8 p.m. 2012

It's even more true in improv than in life: Experience counts. It can take years of study just to feel comfortable on stage, much less to make smart decisions that move scenes forward. When you don't know what you're going to do, it really helps to know what you're doing.

The Transactors, riffing theatrically since the early '80s, are the deans of Triangle improv. And speaking of deans, tonight is the third installment of their current serial, The Professors, in which the seasoned troupe plays the faculty of the Private University of North Carolina State (PUNCS). Call it ultra-long-form improv: In a nod to television sitcoms and soap operas, characters carry over from show to show, each installment building on their previous work. And there's always a "guest lecturer," played tonight by Transactor-on-hiatus (or is that sabbatical?) Rachel Klem.

Make sure to enroll early, as this class fills up and starts promptly at 8 p.m. If you miss out, on Saturday you can catch "A Midwinter Night's Dream," presented by FatMouth Improv and guest-starring Transactor Anoo Brod, at 8 p.m. at the same place (Common Ground Theatre). —Marc Maximov
