The Old Ceremony, Skylar Gudasz

When: Wed., Dec. 31, 9:30 p.m. 2014

In April, The Old Ceremony celebrated its 10th anniversary as a band, holding court at The Haw River Ballroom. It felt natural to wonder if, in meeting the milestone, the pop sophisticates were slowing. Their touring pace had decelerated, and two years had passed since Fairytales and Other Forms of Suicide, their big step onto the Yep Roc roster. Marriage, fatherhood, side-projects and civil disobedience had taken some of the members' time, so perhaps the benchmark connoted some sort of fade? Fortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case: Frontman Django Haskins is in the midst of recording an album with Jayhawk Gary Louris, while The Old Ceremony is preparing to launch Sprinter, its second Yep Roc set, in July. Recorded by Mitch Easter, Sprinter adds some new star power through contributions from R.E.M.'s Mike Mills. They start the New Year in the intimate venue where they played their first show in August 2004. Skylar Gudasz, the unimpeachable Chapel Hill singer who's also preparing for a 2015 release, opens. 9:30 p.m., $15–$17, 506 W. Franklin St., Chapel Hill, 919-942-5506, —Grayson Haver Currin

Price: $15-$17
