The New Electric Ballroom

When: Feb. 21-March 9 2013

That's the thing about the bar of broken hearts: It has a killer jukebox. And it never stops playing. A real oldie keeps coming back around for Brenda, Clara and Ada, three emotionally landlocked sisters in a remote Irish fishing village. It's the tale of the night in the 1950s that changed everything, when the romantic dream of two young girls at the titled establishment turned into something else—something that has made all three of them what they are. The sisters regularly replay it in their claustrophobic cottage. And every time the needle touches down, it digs the groove a little deeper.

Given that, what chance does an odd fishmonger—with a rockabilly twist—have of getting this trio to change the tune? We'll see when Jeff Storer directs a first-rate quartet including Marcia Edmundson, Lenore Field, Katja Hill and Derrick Ivey in Tony Award-winning playwright Enda Walsh's family drama. Thursday's opening performance is pay-what-you-can with a $5 minimum at the door. Thursday–Saturday through March 9. —Byron Woods

Price: $5-17
