The Monti GrandSLAM

When: Fri., April 19, 8 p.m. 2013

As the Triangle's resident storytelling initiative, the Monti has been hosting live events for about five years now, in which people practice that most ancient form of entertainment: They tell each other stories. Friday's GrandSLAM event will feature the winners of this season's StorySLAM series, the competitive open-mic format in which anyone can come on stage and tell a five-minute story. Winners are determined by audience vote. The theme for this year's GrandSLAM is "nuclear families," a concept that can cut a few different ways, says Monti host and founder Jeff Polish. "It could simply be stories about parents and siblings," he says. "Or it could a story about explosions occurring around family issues." Let the detonations commence. —Glenn McDonald

Price: $20-22
