When: Wed., July 5, 8-9 p.m. and Thu., July 6, 8-9 p.m. 2017

When you lose your history, you lose a major part of your identity as well. That's why trans choreographer Sean Dorsey crossed the country interviewing survivors from the earliest years of the American HIV crisis, some twenty years after Bill T. Jones's AIDS dance documentary Still/Here. "Our culture has turned its back on the early epidemic and its survivors," Dorsey says. "We don't talk about it. It isn't taught." With that neglect, a crucial part of LGBTQ history is in the process of vanishing. Working with composers, Dorsey edited seventy-five hours of oral histories into the sound score for The Missing Generation, a multifaceted dance work that literally speaks to us of the all-but-forgotten lives lost in the battle for human rights and dignity during the seventies and eighties. See our interview with Dorsey on the INDY arts blog for more. —Byron Woods
