THE LIAR

WEDNESDAY, MAY 6–SATURDAY, MAY 23, CHAPEL HILL

DEEP DISH THEATER COMPANYDashing young Dorante is a fabulous fabulist, an unequivocal equivocator. More plainly, as the title character in David Ives' risible update on French playwright Pierre Corneille, he's an accomplished liar. (How accomplished? How long could you keep four con games going at once—in iambic pentameter?) As Picasso observed, art may be a lie that makes us realize the truth. Dorante, on the other hand, makes his lies a work of art. Ives' wit is crisp as his character skips along the tightropes of his tangled webs. Will he keep his skin? Keep his stories straight? Marry wealth? Ever tell the truth? Paul Frellick directs a cast including Roman Pearah, Rebecca Bossen and Marilyn Gormon. 7:30 p.m. Weds.–Thurs.; 8 p.m. Fri.–Sat.; 2 p.m. Sun., $14–$25, 201 S.
