The Knights with Gil Shaham

When: Thu., Feb. 25, 7:30 p.m. 2016

For the third performance of his yearlong Chapel Hill residency, violinist Gil Shaham joins the Knights, a rapidly rising chamber orchestra from New York. They’ll perform Prokofiev’s second violin concerto, one of the last works he wrote before returning to the USSR. It sits at a happy medium between his radical early works and his gloomy later pieces. The Knights will offer a boisterous dance suite from 1715 by French composer Jean-Féry Rebel. Beethoven’s fourth symphony, as light and flowing as the fifth is heavy and dark, closes. —Dan Ruccia

Price: $10-$59
