When: Fri., Sept. 18, 8-11 p.m. 2015

THE INVISIBLE BEAR LAUNCH PARTY

FRIDAY, SEPT. 18, DURHAM

THE SHED—Poetry has a restless relationship with the academy. However incorrectly, it can feel like hardly anyone reads or writes it without a university connection or credential. The Invisible Bear, a new literary and art review edited by Duke University graduate students and Durham-area poets, comes out of this uneasiness about poetry's general relevance. The journal is the latest project born from an informal poetry working group in Durham that straddles Duke's campus border—quarterly journal Lute & Drum and chapbook press Three Count Pour are others. The Invisible Bear throws itself a launch party with readings by journal contributors Bradley Allf and Andrea Applebee as well as content editor David Dulceany, followed by live jazz from Donovan Cheatham, Danny Grewen and Kenny Phelps-McKeown. There will also be an official announcement of the lineup of this year's Little Corner Reading Series. 8 p.m., free, 807 E. Main St., Durham, 732-570-2935, www.shedjazz.com.Chris Vitiello
