10 years ago: Barry Yeoman ventured into the heart of tobacco country with the group Friends of Tobacco, which was traveling the state in a PR push against the anti-smoking agenda.
20 years ago: Jason De Parle observed the labor strife between the Hanes Company in Winston-Salem and its workers, many of whom suffered from "repetitive motion traumas" resulting from continuous labor. The workers claimed that the clothing manufacturer was covering up widespread hand, wrist and arm injuries.
