The Independent Weekly 20th Anniversary

Looking Back

Here's what The Indy was writing about the week of April 2:

5 years ago (Real Best of the Triangle issue): A sample of what our readers deemed to be ...

Best place to see a blockbuster movie: Ram Triple (now gone)

Best coffeehouse to write in: Cup A Joe on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh (still there)

10 years ago: Bob Burtman reported on the recent decline of small family farms in North Carolina and those farmers' frustrations with the State Department of Agriculture, whose policies they felt largely ignored them while favoring bigger farms.

15 years ago: The Indy ran its very first "Local News" feature, edited by Todd Oppenheimer, who introduced the page by writing: "We want to discuss local issues more regularly than we have in the past, and, we hope, in a voice that is sharper, funnier, more personal than what you find in other local news around the Triangle." Local News would later change its name to "Triangles," and exists as such to this day.
